레노버 데이터센터그룹(DCG)이 모바일 월드 콩그레스(이하 ‘MWC’) 바르셀로나에서 향후 몇 년 동안에 걸친 IoT 성장 계획의 일환으로 IoT와 에지 컴퓨팅을 지원하는 솔루션에 지속적으로 투자한 경험을 소개할 예정이다.

레노버 데이터센터그룹은 5분기 연속 순이익 성장세를 이어가고 있는 여세를 몰아 기존의 데이터 센터에 있든 클라우드에 있든 혹은 또는 점점 더 늘어나고 있든 상관 없이 데이터가 자리잡고 있는 곳으로 인프라를 옮기는 포트폴리오를 구축하고 있다.

현재는 기업이 생성하는 데이터의 약10 %가 기존의 중앙집중식 데이터센터나 클라우드 밖에서 생성, 처리되고 있다. 가트너(Gartner)에 따르면 2022년이 되면 이 수치가 75%에 이를 것이라고 예측했다. 이런 이전으로 인해 지연과 대역폭 및 정지 시간 등의 문제와 더불어 데이터 프라이버시와 보안 및 규제와 관련된 우려가 늘어나고 있다. 레노버는 고객들이 IoT 이용 사례에 에지 컴퓨팅 솔루션을 배치하고자 하는 다양한 방법들을 처리하는 광범위한 에지 컴퓨팅 제품 포트폴리오를 만들어냄으로써 이러한 문제를 해결하고 있다.

레노버는 MWC 바르셀로나에서 싱크패드(ThinkPad)보다 약간 큰 에지 서버인 싱크시스템(ThinkSystem) SE350을 선보일 예정이다. 특별히 제작된 이 서버는 이번 여름 출시를 앞두고 있는데 기존 서버에 비해 폭이 절반으로 상당히 짧아 좁은 공간에 배치하는데 적합하다. 벽에 장착하거나 선반에 쌓거나 랙에 장착할 수 있는 싱크시스템 SE350은 늘어난 처리 능력과 스토리지 및 네트워크를 데이터 생성 장소에 좀더 가깝게 배치함으로써 데이터 분석 결과에 따른 조치가 보다 신속하게 이루어질 있게 한다. 이런 에지 서버는 일반적으로 안전한 데이터센터 바깥에 배치되기 때문에 장치에 저장된 데이터를 암호화하고 권한이 부여된 사용자만 액세스 할 수 있게 하는 기술을 포함시킨다. 또한 서버는 Wi-Fi와 LTE 연결을 모두 지원하게 된다.

레노버 데이터센터그룹의 커크 스카우젠(Kirk Skaugen) 수석부사장은 “고객들로 하여금 에지 컴퓨팅이 자신의 기업에 가져다 줄 수 있는 힘을 깨닫도록 도움을 줄 수 있는 엄청난 기회가 있다”며 “우리는 지난 몇 년 동안 다수의 전략적 파트너와 함께 IoT 및 텔코(Telco) 제품에 집중적으로 투자했고 에지에서 데이터센터로의 연결을 가능케 했다”고 말했다. 이어 “우리는 개방형 RAN을 비롯해 업계의 공개 소스 이니셔티브를 지원하기 위해 노력하고 있으며 레노버는 개방형 RAN(O-RAN) 클라우드화 및 통합 그룹의 공동 의장을 맡길 기대하고 있다”고 덧붙였다.

Next week at MWC Barcelona, Lenovo Data Center Group (DCG) will showcase continued investments in its solutions supporting IoT and edge computing as part of its IoT growth plan over the next few years. Building on the momentum of its fifth consecutive quarter of profit growth, Lenovo DCG is building a portfolio that takes infrastructure to where the data is, whether that be in the traditional data center, in the cloud or increasingly, at the edge.

Today, around 10 percent of enterprise-generated data is created and processed outside a traditional centralized data center or cloud. By 2022, Gartner predicts this figure will reach 75 percent. This migration is driving increased concerns around data privacy, security and regulations coupled with challenges of latency, bandwidth and downtime. Lenovo is addressing these challenges by creating a broad portfolio of edge computing offerings that address the different ways that customers want to deploy edge computing solutions for IoT use cases.

At MWC Barcelona, Lenovo will unveil the ThinkSystem SE350, an edge server that is just slightly larger than a ThinkPad. This purpose-built server will come to market this summer and is half the width and significantly shorter than a traditional server, making it ideal for deployment in tight spaces. It can be mounted on a wall, stacked on a shelf or mounted in a rack. The ThinkSystem SE350 puts increased processing power, storage and network closer to where data is generated, allowing actions resulting from the analysis of that data to take place more quickly. Since these edge servers are typically deployed outside of secure data centers, they include technology that encrypts the data stored on the device if it is tampered with, only enabling authorized users to access it. In addition, the server will support both Wi-Fi and LTE connectivity.
